Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort Profile
About The Resort
Sierra at Tahoe is a small but fantastic resort that has a few tricks up its sleeve. Due to its natural sheltered location, storms tend to hang around to give it more snow than the other nearby South Lake Tahoe resorts. These natural features also give Sierra a wind advantage, in which there is a good chance their lifts will be running during a storm when other resorts are on wind hold.
The old growth trees give Sierra at Tahoe a great selection of off-piste tree riding. For the freestyle rider, the terrain parks are highly creative, varied in skill level and all around a lot of fun. With smaller crowds and a great ski school, Sierra is a locals and family favorite. For those staying or visiting from the Bay Area, the location of the resort on Highway 50 makes for a convenient day trip.

Resort History
The early days of Sierra began in the 1850′s when clear cutting in the area left behind large areas of Red Fir Trees. Since these trees were not good for lumber, they were left behind, creating a perfect atmosphere for tree skiing.
In 1946, skiing arrived to Sierra at Tahoe when Vern Sprock established Sierra Ski Ranch which included one base lodge, one lift and one tow rope.
In 1968, Highway 50 is widened and in response the resort is moved up the road one mile. The new construction includes a new base lodge and a new chairlift. Since then, the resort slowly expanded with new lifts and snow making capacity.
The name Sierra-at-Tahoe was given to the resort in 1993 when the Sierra Ski Ranch was sold to new owners. Since then, significant updates included five new backcountry gates in 2001 and various upgrades in chairlift technology.
