Alpine Meadows Ski Resort Profile
About The Resort
Alpine Meadows is known by most of its regular skiers and snowboarders for the great terrain and tree riding that has defined this resort since its opening in the 1960′s. A little bit of extra effort goes a long way here as well, because some of the trails do require hiking and/or traversing to get to the good stuff. Anyone that has been here will tell you that it is worth it though, as you are likely to find powder stashes still remaining here when there is none left at other resorts. A unique policy is found here in the form of an ‘open boundary,’ something you won’t find in many other places.
The resort itself could be perceived as no-frills by some, especially when compared to its larger neighbor Squaw Valley. However, as the lodges are less so are the crowds. All in all, if you value a day of freeriding it is worth checking out Alpine Meadows.

Resort History
Alpine’s resort was founded by John Riley in 1961 after a group of ski enthusiasts visited the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Games and saw a future in the neighboring mountains. The resort was founded a year later as an alternative to the busy Squaw Valley, opening with 3 lifts initially and has expanded ever since.
